Yesterday Katie and I went on an adventure to the Depot in search of paint. We were able to get a STEAL on 2 gallons of ceiling paint and decided to start with a gallon of wall paint before we committed to more. We made the decision to just paint everything a generic shade of white to freshen the place up. The ceiling and wall color are similar enough to keep a good color flow all around. While we haven’t done the trim, it will probably be a different shade of white. White and bright is the official paint theme of The LPH.

After patiently waiting for the floor to be finished it was our #1 priority to keep them pristine. We bought what’s called rosin paper . You CAN NOT tape anything to the floor so we had to be careful to tape everything to the moldings around the bottom of each room. I’m glad we covered everything to our OCD standards, because we had this little hiccup

The prep for this whole painting production was really key. The refinishing process was done very cleanly, however, the previous tenants didn’t exactly meet our cleanliness standards. Prior to painting, we had to go through and clean the walls of grease in the kitchen, dirt, and bits of saw dust that got trapped places. We just used some basic Clorox green works and diluted it a bit with warm water and rags. This did the trick quite well and the walls were ready to go.

Another thing to note, is good lighting is key when you’re painting. While it was a pretty bright day outside, as the sun set and it got darker inside, things didn’t exactly look the same. At that point we realized we should probably replace the lightbulb that was missing. Thankfully, that helped us with realizing why some of the walls just didn’t look right. When the sunsets, everything seems to change.

Here’s a preview of the upstairs living room with a fresh coat of paint:

You will need to take into consideration, that the rosin paper is pink. So the white walls all seemed to have a pink tone to them because of the reflection from the floor. I promise I don’t have pink walls inside a pink house. I love pink, but, not that much!

We won’t know for sure how well everything worked out, but, today felt like great progress. I’m just so glad we can actually get in there and start doing things. It’s starting to feel a bit more real and I’m ok with that. I can’t wait to see what next weekend brings!
