Hello all!!
I apologize for not doing a great job of keeping up with this in the last few weeks. Just an update down of what’s happened since I last blogged:
We moved in!!
After painting, cleaning, fixing, and all that other exciting stuff, Katie and I finally moved into our respective apartments. While there are still projects to do, it’s fully liveable. As of today, it has been 4 exhausting weeks of living here. Real life kind of took over and in-turn house work has slowed down a bit.
Today’s room update, is all about my bathroom. It’s not completely done, but, I’ve committed to decorating it so we’re making it pretty people! When I first bought the house, step one was getting rid of the foul linoleum:
I know lots of designers like to keep the flooring or counter tops similar in kitchens and bathrooms so the house flows together, however, this is a flow I was not interested in. I would like to draw your attention to the beautiful tropical fish border at the top if the walls. Some parts were held on the wall with a bit of packing tape to add to the charm. The time it took for my mother too remove it, was a lot longer then initially anticipated. I think they found the world’s thickest wall paper border. Wallpaper and carpets are easily my least favorite home decor trends and this house has solidified my dislike.
I did a bit of work in the sink/ vanity section to bring it a little more into 2014. Here is the before:
My dad so kindly changed out the light fixture and it’s one less liability. The oak-ish vanity cabinet, was dullsville and bothered me. If this house production has taught me anything, it’s paint is a miracle worker. We had a Small container of black paint for the down stairs bathroom and I decided to give it a whirl upstairs. I’m really glad I did! The new cabinet looks much more modern now. Here it is fresh and new:
I also got new door pulls for the vanity. What I had wasn’t cutting it. It’s like a whole new bathroom!
Because I’m now an adult, I also decided to create a bit of a theme for the bathroom. Being the Cancer sign, my love for all things crab knows no bounds! And so, I knew I had to have a crab bathroom. I even got quite crafty with the decor.
To start with, I had a large metal crab I insisted my mother buy me for my birthday. Was there any actual way to hang it up? No. Does it serve a really function? No, again. BUT, it’s a shiny crab so it was happy birthday to me! Mind you, my birthday is in June, so for the last 5 months this heavy metal crab has been hanging about. Today, I had the brilliant plan of using kitchen twine to make a hook for it. A few pieces of twine braided and a nail, and here we have my shiny crab wall decor!
I also created a collage from Old Bay crab seasoning beer case that I’ve been holding on to for this bathroom. I’ve only been holding on to this stuff for about 3 months and found the perfect beachy frame for it a few weeks ago:
A few years ago my parents brought me cute crab magnets from an adventure down South. Since then I’ve moved about 3 times and they haven’t all made it out alive. Today I had a stroke of genius when I decided to frame one that I found. The magnet was lost about 2 moves ago, so I had to rip it apart a bit to make it work. However, I think it turned out pretty cute for some art work:
Over all, I think operation: crabby bathroom went off quite well. Here is the full vanity completed and decorated:
I’m glad that part of this bathroom looks complete and you’ll notice, I have 2 hand towels waiting for friends. So when we’re ready for the grand reveal, clean and dry hands for everyone!!
I hope you all enjoyed the update and I’ll be back soon. I have finished a bunch more stuff that I’m looking forward to sharing with you.
Thanks for following!!!
