Operation: Reno-cation

Of course a beach vacation would be wonderful at Christmas time, but, when you buy a house that isn’t exactly in the budget. What ever was I going to do with my vacation days? Why take a Reno-cation! I had a few projects I wanted to take care of before the new year and this week was the only chance I would have.

Last time I posted, it was all about my bathroom. I was able to make it a bit nicer, but, it was still struggling. While putting down a floor isn’t incredibly difficult, it is time consuming and a bit labor involved. I could not go into 2014 walking on sub-floor every time I went into the bathroom. The floormats that I was leaping between were definitely starting to get on my nerves.

Thankfully, I had a very successful Reno-cation! When I started yesterday, here is how the bathroom looked:

The key to making it all work was having all the necessary tools. You’re going to need a level most importantly.

Although, haven’t tried tiles with grout, I went with peel and stick vinyl tiles.

It was my hope that this was a simpler method. At the very least, when I one day gut the bathroom, it will be much easier to remove/ tile over vinyl tiles then grout. I will say, the most annoying part was trying to cut the tiles. However, that was to be expected.

To start, you need to find the center of the room. Then you’ll need use a chalk line to make sure you follow it. However, if you start right, you should be able to follow the tiles you already laid and it will be easy. It should look like this:

Here is the finished product:

It makes such a difference! I feel like I’m in a whole new bathroom. It was an annoying process, but, I’m so glad that it’s finally done! I’m ready to tackle 2015 with a bathroom that isn’t half-way done. If I’ve learned batting during this process, it’s that I just need to bite the bullet and do the project. I’m so happy when it’s over that it’s worth the annoyance during the process.

There are still a few touch ups to do, but, I still have 1 more day in 2014. Thanks for following along and here’s to hoping 2015 brings success in the rest of the projects I have in brewing in my imagination!

Cheers!
