Behold the power of the Pruning sheers

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood today. I could have stayed inside and pulled out staples as I had planned, but, when the sun is shining and it’s 65 degrees in October in the Northeast you do not waste the day indoors. To the back yard I went with my mom while dad stayed in doors to handle some plumbing issues.

For those of you the know me, I’m not stranger to a yard crash. This past summer I completely overhauled the entire backyard at my parents rental property. And when I say over haul, I mean building walls, moving pounds of dirt, overhaul. Here is a quick pic stitch before and after shot for those that are unfamiliar:

It was not my intention today to completely overhaul the backyard. I’m a bit tapped out from the summer. However, I’m not sure when the last time anyone pulled a weed out from the backyard. It was completely over grown and I had no idea where the patio started and the planter boxes began. Once again, it was a treasure hunt to find out what lay below. I’m not upset that this is the theme of the weekend, because I’ve found some great treasure.

It took a few hours and quite a few large brown leaf bags, but, progress was definitely made. Here’s some of the bag line up:

The overgrown trees and bushes really took away from how much actually space was available. The backyard I walked into looked like this:

I’m proud and really pumped to say it now looks like this:

I’m so pleased that there is more then enough room for a grill, seating area, and dining set. There will definitely need to be some more love and attention put into it. For right now, it’s once again useable and that was the goal. Mission accomplished!!

I hope everyone is looking to some Spring time transformations! I have a few months to now look around and find ideas of what to do. There is a giant planter in the middle that is kind of useless to me. I need a functional backyard for entertaining. While plants are nice, they don’t need to be right in the middle of the yard.

Here’s to a future project! I’m sure money of many.
